The Monday after an Arsenal win doesn’t seem too much like your common Monday.
The Gunners took the sting out of the start of the working week with an emphatic win at Craven Cottage yesterday afternoon against Fulham, that reinstated us to five points clear at the top of the table.
Eleven cup finals to go and we could be experiencing something completely magic in May, something that someone like myself has been deprived of in life so far, with our last Premier League trophy coming when I was seven.
The game at Fulham yesterday was one that I admittedly feared when looking at our upcoming fixtures, a good side that have had a strong season and it was a game away from home.
Looking back, I’m not sure why I’m still fearing away games, I’m Arsenal and we’ve been through enough heartbreak away from home in the past, not this season though - not anymore.
We’ve got the best away record in the league, and yesterday showed why.
We looked lively from start to finish, barely breaking a sweat at times and just outplaying Fulham, a very decent side, and making it look like a bit of a training session.
The away support admittedly feel like we were playing at home, hats off to everyone at Craven Cottage because that really does represent ‘the twelfth man’ and it’s been the case all season so far.
What a first half it was though, Arteta got it spot on and we just looked unplayable.
I laughed when William Saliba - our champagne centre half - went for a spectacular goal with a shot from about 30 yards for no particular reason, the way this season is going, I wouldn’t have been too shocked if it went in.
I just really enjoyed the performance yesterday, it was a statement as to why we are where we are, and how the dull past of nerve-racking football is well and truly worth forgetting about, because the future is ever so bright.
Gabriel Jesus returned, he missed a very good chance, but he made the chance and he was all over the place getting involved as if he’d never been away.
His return will be like a new signing, and on the subject of new signings; Leandro Trossard, where do I start.
Three assists in the first half for the Belgian and an overall fantastic performance from arguably the best signing in the January transfer window - in fact, there’s no debate.
Another new introduction that’s completely changed the look of this team is William Saliba, the Frenchman paired with Gabriel Magalhaes is the reason we are top of the table, and the reason why myself, and most of you reading this, don’t fear playing away from home anymore.
Their youthful spark and innate defensive artistry makes them the perfect duo in central defence, both full of pace, agility and strong on and off the ball - almost faultless.
It’s fantastic to be able to gush about Arsenal, for most of my life I’ve been the topic of banter at school and in the workplace for Arsenal making blunders throughout the Premier League campaigns, but not this year and good riddance.
I’m enjoying being insufferable, and long may it continue. I believe we can go all the way, and regardless of how we stand in May, it’s been an eye opening year of improvement for the Gunners.
Next up, Sporting Lisbon at home in the Europa League, then straight back to business back at the carpet.
Eleven cup finals to go, come on you Gunners.
