Highbury Spy Extra: The Spy on Arsenal's transfer window so far
Here's an extra treat for those who love our Gooner Fanzine's much-loved star columnist: Highbury Spy on Arsenal's transfer window so far exclusively for our website ahead of the Spy's must-read print column in our first issue of the new season out next week for Arsenal vs Brighton.
My appreciation of Arsenal off the field hasn’t been at all enhanced by our inability to get any new signings other than Calafiori and David Raya (which was a shoe in) over the line - even if Mikel Merino is on is way.
But what about getting cover for Bukayo Saka and a new striker?
At the time of writing, we may be shifting Eddie Nketiah at long last, but Reiss Nelson is still here and he is never going to play in the first eleven or even be a squad player if his performances against Man United and Liverpool in the US were anything to go by.
Talk about a passenger. He may have loads of talent, but he can’t read the game, so never gets the ball. I would take a fiver for him, just to get him off the payroll.
Nothing on Aaron Ramsdale either, bar two underwhelming loan offers from Southampton and Wolves. And with no obligation to buy.
After the way we have treated the poor kid, we’re now making it impossible for him to leave?
Have some compassion and let him go for £35m or on loan with an option to buy.
We still need a back up keeper and we’ve taken the mickey by offering Wolves a tenner for their reserve keeper Dan Bentley. What planet are we on?
No Ivan Toney, who would improve us 100%.
Who is running our transfer operation these days, because it doesn’t look like Edu is?
Get your finger out Arsenal or we’re definitely not winning the title or Champions League this season.
The legendary Highbury Spy returns in print next weekend for issue 307 of the Gooner Fanzine, which hits the streets for Arsenal vs Brighton
