Here's legendary Gooner Fanzine print columnist The Highbury Spy on Arsenal's hugely disappointing Champions League KO at the hands of Bayern Munich in Germany on Wednesday evening, in a special Highbury Spy Extra.
Joshua Kimmich nodded home in the 63rd minute to win the Champions League quarter-final second leg for Bayern Munich. Arsenal had chances to score, especially in the first half, but were unable to find a way through as Thomas Tuchel's Bayern will now face Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
Read on for the Spy's take in this special Highbury Spy extra.
I would need an hour to express my feelings about last night and sadly I just don't have the time. (See the next printed issue of the Gooner Fanzine for a full take - Ed).
1) Lack of squad rotation
Suffice to say, I hope you understand, but I will just say I am becoming increasingly frustrated by Mikel Arteta's decision not to utilise his squad more.
Thomas Partey and Fabio Vieira have been fit for weeks. Why not use them?
It seems ESR and Reiss Nelson are simply not trusted by Arteta.
2) We're knackered and have run out of steam
We also look shattered.
It will be interesting to see how we get on against Wolves and Chelsea. Have to win them both to keep the season alive.
Yet I do not want to see a half fit Bukayo Saka, Gabi Martinelli and Jesus yet again. FFS use the squad instead.
3) Why do we never shoot?
Why do we never look like scoring in big matches such as Wednesday evening's crucial Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena?
Why is Arteta's record so abysmal in knock out football (save for 2020)?
I'll write more about these issues and more in the next Gooner issue.
Cheers and chin up!
