How Arsenal Women stars fared in the international break

Steph Catley & Caitlin Foord- Australia:

Arsenal’s Aussies often link up effectively for their club side, and the two were on form for the Matildas once again, with Catley setting up Foord’s goal in the 3-2 win over Spain. Australia also beat Jamaica and Czech Republic to retain the Cup of Nations, with Catley starting all three games for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosts. Foord scored a superb first-time long range strike to seal a 3-0 victory against Jamaica, with the forward enjoying an excellent season for club and country.

Manu Zinsberger & Laura Wienroither- Austria:

Austria took on the Netherlands in two friendlies, with Zinsberger and Wienroither starting in a 2-1 win before the Arsenal keeper watched a 4-0 thumping by the Dutch from the bench- Wienroither was not in the squad for Austria’s second game.

Rafaelle- Brazil:

Helped Brazil’s back four to a clean sheet in the 1-0 SheBelieves Cup win over Japan before coming off the bench in the 46th minute in the 2-0 defeat to Canada. Played the full 2-1 defeat to the USA in Brazil’s final tie.

Sabrina D’Angelo- Canada:

Part of the squad that took on the USA and Brazil in this year’s SheBelieves Cup, D’Angelo was an unused substitute in Canada’s first two games. Arsenal’s January signing took on Japan last night but was injured in the process of trying to keep out Kiko Seike’s goal and had to be substituted, with no word on the extent of her injury as of yet.

Kathrine Kuhl- Denmark:

Featured in all of Denmark’s Tournoi de France matches, a bright young prospect for club and country.

Leah Williamson & Lotte Wubben-Moy- England:

Towering header? Pinpoint strike from the edge of the box? Leah Williamson made it look easy as the England skipper scored a brace in the Lionesses’ 6-1 win over Belgium as Sarina Wiegman’s side retained the Arnold Clark Cup. Wubben-Moy impressed from the bench against Italy, also coming on late on in the Belgium game, with Williamson starting two of England’s three games.

Katie McCabe- Republic of Ireland:

Scored from the penalty spot in a 4-0 friendly win over Morocco and then featuring in the draw with China, playing 90 minutes in both games. Will captain her country at their first ever World Cup this summer.

Victoria Pelova- Netherlands:

The former Ajax midfielder came up against Manu Zinsberger in the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Austria in Malta, starting both friendlies.

Frida Maanum- Norway:

With a number of mini-tournaments taking place across the international break, Norway faced Uruguay and Denmark as well as France in the Tournoi de France. Maanum started the 1-0 win over Uruguay and the 0-0 draw with the hosts in Angers. The midfielder has been on fire for Arsenal this season with ten goals and five assists in all competitions.

Stina Blackstenius and Lina Hurtig- Sweden:

Blackstenius picked up an assist in Sweden’s win against China and also started against Germany. Hurtig returned to Arsenal during the international break due to injury, not playing in either game.

Noelle Maritz & Lia Walti- Switzerland:

Walti returned from injury to play the second half of Arsenal’s final game before the international break, and featured for the Swiss in both of their friendlies against Poland, playing 62 and then 46 minutes. Maritz started at left back in the goalless draw before being an unused sub in the second game.
