Manchester City 4-1 Arsenal: Pep Guardiola's side prove too good for valiant Gunners

Manchester City 4-1 Arsenal

Pep Guardiola's outstanding Manchester City side swept aside valiant Arsenal 4-1 at the Etihad on Wednesday evening.

Despite Mikel Arteta's Gunners heading into the match five points clear, albeit having played two games more than the home side, City were simply too good for the Gunners on a challenging evening for those with affiliation to the red and white of North London.

An early goal by Kevin De Bruyne followed by a John Stones header moments before the break ensured Manchester City went into the half time interval 2-0 up against Arsenal.

City's movement on and off the ball, allied with their attacking prowess spearheaded by the beast that is Erling Haaland meant a challenging opening 45 minutes for the Gunners.

De Bruyne then made it 3-0 early in the second half to kill the game, prior to Rob Holding firing a late consolation for the Gunners.

There was still time for Haaling to fire home and make the final score 4-1 as City made it seven consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since a 12-match winning run between November 2021 and January 2022.

However, there was no shame in Arsenal losing to such an outstanding team, after such a tremendous season -0 with the prospect of Champions League football at the Emirates once again next season.

Next stop the Premier League title for City, surely. Then the Champions League, followed by the FA Cup for an imperious treble.
