Arsenal were back in action last night in friendly tournament the Dubai Super Cup in what was an impressive display by the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta’s side showed a rounded performance reflected by the 3-0 score line.
Goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Eddie Nketiah and Fabio Vieira took the game away from Lyon, who failed to score and left Arsenal well in control of the game.
Speaking to the club’s official website after the contest, Arteta expressed his satisfaction with the win:
“The performance, the application and the quality that we showed was really good. We play to win and today we won and played really well.”
The game was different to your average friendly match, ending with a penalty shootout where young Arsenal keeper Karl Hein saved three of Lyon’s takes leaving Arsenal 2-1 winners, earning them a bonus point in the competition.
Arteta gave an encouraging assessment of the young players involved in the tournament and in last weeks behind closed doors friendly against Watford:
“It was great to see some of the young kids playing some minutes, they’ve been really helpful and integrating really well with the team.”
The Gunners are in action twice more before the Premier League return match against West Ham on boxing day.
