Unsurprisingly, Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have been named as the first two managers to join the illustrious Premier League Hall of Fame.
Arsene needs little introduction for his time at Arsenal and influence on English football as we see it today, the Frenchman was at the helm of Arsenal for 22 seasons before his emotional exit in 2018.
We wouldn’t be the Arsenal we are today without Arsene, no one could comprehend the work that went on behind the scenes in his dedicated life to Arsenal Football Club, for that, and the three Premier League titles and invincible season, he will forever be commemorated in English football.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke highly of his former coach and his influence on the game when speaking to the club’s media channel.
“I had a dream to play for this club, and that was because of the way Arsenal played under Arsene.
It was so attractive, I think every player wanted to play here! I had a phenomenal time with him, and I learnt a lot.”
The Spaniard admitted that Wenger was a huge influence in his decision to continue his time at Arsenal as a coach after his playing career.
“We had a conversation and I asked him what he would do in my position because I had doubts about whether to continue or start my journey as a coach.
He helped me at the club and at the academy to do my badges, and he was an inspiration and always supportive. I think he inspired every player and every member of staff that has worked with him.”
The gratitude towards Arsene Wenger can be shed by any English football fan, Sir Alex and Arsene took the league to another level.
Arteta touched upon Wenger’s influence in bringing foreign players into the league, an influence that changed the dynamic of the Premier League forever.
“I think he took English football to a different level and challenged it to open its doors for many other foreigners to come and join the league to make it better.
He had a vision that was much wider than any other manager had at the time. I think England and the Premier League has to be very grateful forever to this man.”
No one could emulate Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta is on the path to be a great successor for such an incredible gentleman.
Congratulations to Arsene, a truly formidable force in football.
