Arsenal were victorious once more in the Dubai Super Cup, seeing off Italian champions AC Milan winning 2-1.
A spectacular free kick from skipper Martin Odegaard opened the scoring, Reiss Nelson then added before Fikayo Tomori got one back for Milan late on.
The Gunners claimed the trophy with a maximum eight points made over two games, winning two games and two penalty shoot outs earning a bonus point on both occasions.
Mikel Arteta’s side return to North London in high spirits before taking on Juventus at the weekend at the Emirates Stadium in final preparations before the return of the Premier League.
The Spaniard was overjoyed with his sides win and thanked the youth players for their involvement in the tournament.
“It was a great test for us against a very different opponent to Lyon. The win is a good way to close the camp. I think they’ve been absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much to the boys they’ve been really helpful.”
Arteta was also thankful for the senior players’ mental strength and dedication to regroup so sharply following their respective World Cup exits, the manager assured fans that absent players will be back amongst the squad soon.
“It’s been very good, especially their reaction psychologically. The players were all willing to come and stay in Dubai. We knew it, tried to plan it and hopefully we can have the rest of them very soon.”
Arsenal will be hoping to finish the remainder of the season as strong as the start, with players dedicating to the club and eager to get going again, who knows what could be at the end of the campaign.
