Arsenal are in action once more tomorrow evening with Everton paying a visit to the Emirates in the rearranged Premier League fixture.
The Gunners have a game in hand on second place Manchester City so a win is – as always – critical for Mikel Arteta’s side to extend the gap at the top in a crucial part of the season.
The Arsenal boss spoke to the club’s media ahead of the midweek clash and provided updates on absentees.
Midfielder Thomas Partey has been absent for Arsenal’s previous three games, making a short cameo last time out at Leicester whilst recovering from injury.
Arteta was unable to confirm whether to Ghanaian will start ahead of Jorginho against Everton:
“He hasn’t trained much. He had a session, and he will train today. It is what it is. He was out for a few weeks, and he needs to get back into the rhythm.”
Arsenal will be hoping to right their wrongs as Everton dealt them defeat in February’s trip to Goodison Park.
Arteta touched upon the importance of correcting the disappointing performance against Sean Dyche’s blues:
“It’s a case of doing things better than we did when we played them a few weeks ago and earning the right to win the game. Hopefully tomorrow we will play much better than we did that day.”
It’s a must win game for Arsenal, as things heat up at the top of the table and as we all know too well, things can change in the blink of an eye in the Premier League.
Arteta called on the home fans to get behind the team tomorrow night as the Gunners seek revenge on Everton back at home:
“That’s [fan support] going to be crucial. Tomorrow, we expect to have the same support because with that, we’re going to be closer to winning the game for sure.”
With talk of Gabriel Jesus edging closer to a return, Arteta was quizzed on his decisions for his best starting eleven now that the squad has some depth following the January transfer window.
The Spaniard explained the demand of the Premier League and the reintroduction of European football on the players and the importance of squad depth:
“Players can’t maintain the same level for 10 months - it’s just impossible. We need to change, and we have to generate alternatives and be more unpredictable for opponents sometimes as well. We have those options now.”
Arsenal kick off at 19.45 under the lights at the Emirates tomorrow evening.
