Arsenal defender Laia Codina would welcome a move to North London for Spain teammate Mariona Caldentey.
Barcelona forward Caldentey played with Codina before the latter joined Arsenal last year, and has been strongly linked with signing for the Gunners after the end of the season in Spain.
Caldentey, 28, is out of contract at the end of 2023/24, with Barcelona’s season coming to an end next month.
Codina spoke to the press on Thursday, May 30 ahead of Spain’s game against Denmark.
The Arsenal centre-back said of a potential move for Caldentey: “If I could choose, of course I would take her.”
World Cup winner Caldentey has spent ten seasons with Barcelona, and has reportedly made Arsenal her ideal destination.
Caldentey offers versatility and experience for the Gunners, equally adept upfront or on the left wing, as well as providing an option in the number ten role.
A decision on her future will likely be finalised following the international break.
