Wolfsburg’s UEFA Women’s Champions League squad:

Merle Frohms In her second spell with Wolfsburg, having played for them at academy level and then spending 6 years at the club before joining Freiburg. Won the 2013 and 2014 Champions Leagues in her first spell, and kept 4 clean sheets in Germany’s run to the Euro 2022 final. Left out of the squad in midweek to allow her to rest before facing Arsenal.

Julia Kassen 20 year old goalkeeper who is set to leave the club in the summer.

Lisa Weiss Kept a clean sheet against Duisburg on Wednesday night in her first league start this season. Olympic gold medalist with Germany in 2016 who won the Champions League with Lyon before a spell in the WSL with Aston Villa. Will hang up her gloves in the summer.

Kiara Beck 18 year old who plays for Wolfsburg’s reserves but is listed in their Champions League squad.

Katarzyna Kiedrzynek Polish goalkeeper who signed from PSG in 2020 after 7 years in Paris but will leave the club upon the expiration of her contract at the end of the season.

Sara Agrez Slovenian central defender who spent three seasons with Turbine Potsdam before signing for Wolfsburg last year on a three year deal. Can also operate as a left back, and had captained Potsdam in her time there. Has played just one in the Champions League this season, in the 4-0 win over St Polten.

Kathrin Hendrich Belgium-born Germany international formerly of Bayern Munich, Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen. Very versatile, experienced defender who has featured in every Champions League match for Wolfsburg in the lead-up to the semi finals.

Dominique Janssen Had a successful spell with Arsenal between 2015-19, making exactly 100 apps and winning 4 trophies with the Gunners. Joined Wolfsburg from Arsenal and won two league titles. Can play in midfield or at right back but is most comfortable at the centre of defence. Part of the Dutch team that won the 2017 Euros on home soil. Scored a penalty in the quarter final first leg and did the same against Duisburg in midweek.

Felicitas Rauch Full back who can play on the wing or in midfield. The 26 year old has been at Wolfsburg since 2019.

Joelle Wedemeyer Played for Wolfsburg at youth level, going on to feature for both the first team and reserve squad. Part of the Wolfsburg side that won the 2014 Champions League, one of 15 trophies that she has won for the She-Wolves.

Marina Hegering Played in every game for Germany in Euro 2022 and was named in the team of the tournament. In her first season with Wolfsburg, signing from Bayern last summer- will eventually take up a coaching position with the club. 32 year old defender who played with Alex Popp in the Duisburg side that won the Champions League in 2009. An injury doubt for Sunday.

Lynn Wilms 22 year old Dutch right-back or centre-back who joined Wolfsburg from FC Twente in 2021.

Lena Oberdorf One of the top midfielders in world football. The 21 year old signed from SGS Essen in 2020 and is a regular starter for Germany- named Young Player of the Tournament in last summer’s Euros. Can play anywhere across midfield.

Lena Lattwein 22 year old former Hoffenheim midfielder. Came off the bench in the Euros final after scoring her first Germany goal against Denmark in Brentford in the group stage. Broke her collarbone in the 8-0 win over Werder Bremen and is likely to miss the rest of the season.

Alexandra Popp Germany captain with over 100 caps for her country, who is also a qualified zookeeper. Three time Champions League winner, first with Duisburg in 2009 and then twice with Wolfsburg. Has won 13 trophies with Wolfsburg. Was injured in the warm up before the Euro 2022 final (hugely significant loss for Germany) and missed out on the game but still finished joint top scorer with 6 goals. Has missed recent games with a calf injury but is close to returning- scored the important goal in the second leg against PSG and is top scorer in the Frauen Bundesliga this season with fourteen.

Jill Roord Has an exit clause that could see her move away from the club in the summer- many of Europe’s top clubs are interested in the creative midfielder, who is an effective goalscorer from range- never needs a second opportunity on the edge of the box. Signed from Arsenal in May 2021- scored 15 goals in 2 seasons with the Gunners but netted against her former side in the second leg last season. Won Euro 2017 with the Netherlands. Turned 26 on Saturday.

Sandra Starke Midfielder born in Namibia who started out with Turbine Potsdam before 8 years with Freiburg.

Svenja Huth Regular in the Germany side- Olympic gold medalist in 2016. Right sided midfielder or forward who is brilliant at crossing from wide areas. Champions League winner with Frankfurt in 2008 and 2015. 12 goals for Wolfsburg, signing in 2019 from Turbine Potsdam.

Kristin Demann 29 year old midfielder or defender who signed from Bayern Munich in May last year. Very experienced in the Bundesliga.

Pia-Sophie Wolter Bremen-born midfielder or forward. Made her Germany debut against Ireland in December 2020, and Katie McCabe scored a penalty.

Pauline Bremer Former Lyon and Manchester City forward who won 2 Champions League titles in her time in France.

Ewa Pajor Has scored 51 goals for Poland in just 70 appearances, the top scorer in the national team’s history. With 108 goals in 152 games for Wolfsburg, a 5 time Bundesliga winner- one of their longest serving players. Has lost 3 Champions League finals with Wolfsburg, all to Lyon. Pacy but also a handful in the air- an instinctive finisher from close range who scores a lot of headers. Seven goals in this season’s Champions League, making her the competition’s top scorer in 2022/23.

Rebecka Blomqvist Played alongside Stina Blackstenius for BK Hacken in their native Sweden- the two compete for the number nine shirt for the international team. Signed for Wolfsburg in 2021 and scored on her debut against Turbine Potsdam. Announced earlier this month that she will leave Wolfsburg at the end of the season when her contract comes to an end- has faced a lack of playing time this season, but Wolfsburg wanted to keep her at the club.

Sveindis Jonsdottir Iceland international who stars for her country. Pacy forward who is good with both feet. Signed for Wolfsburg in 2021 as a 19 year old, where she was swiftly loaned out to Kristianstads in Sweden. Won the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in her first full season last year.

Tabea Wassmuth Scored 10 goals in last season’s Champions League (including in the first leg of the QF vs Arsenal) after signing from Hoffenheim in 2021, where she played with Laura Wienroither. Goalscoring 26 year old who can play anywhere across the forward line, including as a number 10. Gave Wolfsburg the lead in last season’s quarter final first leg between the two sides.

Jule Brand Very versatile young talent who scored in the 2-1 defeat to Rafaelle’s Brazil in the recent international break. Signed last year after 4 seasons at Hoffenheim- scored in their 4-1 win over Arsenal in the group stage of last season’s Champions League.
