Brighton and Hove Albion beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon to all but confirm Manchester City as 2022-23 Premier League champions. 

City simply need to beat underperforming Chelsea at the Etihad next Sunday to clinch the title after Mikel Arteta's side went down to a disappointing defeat against the Seagulls. 

Arsenal went close in the opening stages through a Martin Odegaard drive and a close range effort from Gabriel Jesus that Seagulls keeper Jason Steele blocked at the near post. Bukayo Saka also fired narrowly wide moments before the interval.

While Brighton's best chance of the first half came when the lively Kaoru Mitoma squared for Julio Enciso in the box, only for the 19-year-old Paraguayan to fire over, when well placed.

However, Roberto De Zerbi's Seagulls went ahead six minutes after the interval when Julio Incisio nodded home after Arsenal centre-back Jakub Kiwior inexplicably fell to the ground, allowing the 19-year-old Paraguyan space and time to finish. 

While it appeared that the Gunners January signing had been fouled in the build-up by Alexis Mac Allister, the point still stands that, as a centre-back, the Polish defender should have cleared his lines first and foremost while playing through the pain barrier - rather than crumpling to the floor much in the manner of an entitled striker. 

Brighton extended their lead with four minutes remaining when Deniz Undav lifts the ball over Aaron Ramsdale to double the visitors lead following former Brighton man, Leandro Trossard’s flick that was blocked by Pascal Gross in the build up. 

With eight minutes additional time added, a lively Brighton side made it three when Estupinan fired past Ramsdale to make it three - and effectively handing the title to Pep Guardiola's City, who had beaten Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park earlier in the day.
