Player ratings:

Sarah Bouhaddi 7/10

Two simple saves in the first half before being replaced midway through the second. Starts and ends her Arsenal career with a clean sheet!

Katie McCabe 6.5/10

Crunched into an early tackle on the pacy Courtnee Vine in at times a one-sided battle in favour of the Australian forward.

Steph Catley 7/10

Also battled with Matildas teammate Vine on the left side of defence. Helped Arsenal keep a clean sheet.

Katie Reid 8/10

Strong and aggressive at centre-back, not short of confidence whatsoever at the age of 17. An almost flawless display.

Vivienne Lia 8/10

The academy starlet is a winger by trade but started at right-back in Melbourne and, like Reid, did not lack confidence at all. Was able to get forward, and delivered the pinpoint cross for Alessia Russo’s header.

Victoria Pelova 7/10

Has played a lot of football this season and only featured for the first 45 minutes in Melbourne.

Kyra Cooney-Cross 7.5/10

Dropped back to help centre-backs Catley and Reid, allowing Lia to move down the right flank. Took players on and always wanted the ball.

Caitlin Foord 7/10

Back on home soil- another who has played plenty of minutes for Arsenal in 2023/24. Had a good chance saved on the hour mark.

Kim Little 7/10

Pushed forward to support Russo before dropping back into central midfield in the second half.

Kathrine Kuhl 7/10

Tidy on the ball with clever vision, coming back into the side after a loan spell with Everton.

Alessia Russo 7.5/10

Headed past former Arsenal goalkeeper Lydia Williams in the 40th minute to put the Gunners in front, meeting Lia’s cross in the penalty area.

Teyah Goldie (Sub, HT) 7/10

Returned from a lengthy injury earlier this season and is working back to her best form.

Frida Maanum (Sub, HT) 7/10

Came on upfront in place of Russo and played well in a position she isn’t used to.

Emily Fox (Sub, HT) 7.5/10

Replaced Lia at right-back and stayed high up the pitch.

Cloe Lacasse (Sub, HT) 6.5/10

Worked hard on the wing, coming inside to create chances.

Naomi Williams (Sub, 62’) 7.5/10

A great opportunity for the young goalkeeper to make an impression, saving a shot that boggled just in front of her after coming on and denying a crucial chance towards the end of the game.

Laila Harbert (Sub, 76’)

Maddy Earl (Sub, 83’)

Freya Godfrey (Sub, 84’)
