Raheem Sterling has signed for Arsenal on season long loan from Chelsea

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling completed a last-gasp transfer deadline day loan move across London to Arsenal.

The 29-year-old has agreed a season-long loan with Mikel Arteta's side.

The move has neither an option, nor obligation to make the deal permanent.

"It’s an unbelievable feeling. It’s really exciting," Sterling said of his move.

"It [the move] is one where we kind of left it late but it’s one I was hoping for.

"Looking at everything, I’m just, like, 'This is a perfect fit for me', and I’m super happy that we got it over the line."

Raheem has been capped 82 times by England – only 16 players have made more appearances for the men’s team – and was a key man for his country as they finished runners-up at Euro 2020.

The England international had been told he was not in the plans of new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

Arsenal sporting director Edu, explained what Sterling will bring to the squad, saying: "Well to be fair we never planned really to sign him when we started the transfer window, just to be very transparent.

"For different reasons. But we always say to everyone that you have to be prepared for every single scenario.

"So when that opportunity came to me, and I checked the squad, I checked how he plays, and spoke to Mikel of course.

"I spoke to Tim, our vice-chairman, to check if everyone is comfortable for the step we are going to take, and it makes a lot of sense. [Edu’s phone rings] You see, still working!

"Yes, it makes a lot of sense to have someone like him because I’m pretty sure he is going to add a lot in the squad.

"He has experience, he understands more than anyone the league, he’s played in the Champions League many times.

"He won the Premier League a few times as well, so I think he can add a lot to our squad and I feel really happy to see someone like him in our squad."
