Arsenal forwards Alessia Russo and Beth Mead both hit braces as England won 7-2 against Austria in a friendly.
Russo gave England the lead at the Estadio Nuevo Mirador in Spain after just three minutes. Beth Mead’s shot was parried by Arsenal goalkeeper Manu Zinsberger, with Russo first on the scene to convert the rebound.
Debutant Grace Clinton made it 2-0 before Virginia Kirchberger pulled a goal back for Austria.
Mead scored England’s third with a fine left-footed strike that found the top corner. Russo will claim the assist, after her shot was mis-hit into the path of Mead.

Sarina Wiegman introduced Arsenal’s Lotte Wubben-Moy at half time for her 11th England cap. Wubben-Moy played at left centre-back, replacing Alex Greenwood, and picked up an assist. Her header looked destined for the net, but Chelsea’s Jess Carter got the final touch with a back-heeled flick to make it 5-1.
Austria defender Kirchberger scored a second header before Mead netted her second moments later. Lauren James’ shot came back off the post and Mead followed it in for England’s sixth.
Rachel Daly’s thumping finish sealed an emphatic win for Sarina Wiegman’s side, on a night that Austria and Arsenal keeper Zinsberger will want to forget.
The Lionesses will take on Italy on Tuesday in their second friendly, as part of a warm-weather training camp in the south of Spain.
