Saka, Odegaard and Jesus injury fears as Arsenal boss Arteta provides updates

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been speaking about the fitness of a number of his squad, including Martin Odegaard, ahead of the clash with Burnley at the Emirates

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will make a very late call on the fitness of Bukayo Saka for Saturday afternoon's game at the Emirates against Burnley.

Saka was forced off with five minutes remaining of the Gunners comfortable Champions League victory over Sevilla  on Wednesday evening after enduring a number of robust challenges bordering on the edge of propreity against the team from Andalusia.

However, the Gunners manager is hopeful the knocks are not serious enough for the 22-year-old to miss the game.

“B had to leave the pitch because he was in quite a lot of pain,” Arteta explained during his Friday press conference at the club's HQ, London Colney, adding: “He trained yesterday and lets see if he can make it tomorrow.”

Arteta also confirmed Thomas Partey is unavailable, while Emile Smith Rowe will “probably” miss out in addition to long-term absentee  Jurrien Timber.

“There might be a few more,” he added. “A few are still in contention. We need to give them 24 more hours to give them a chance to be involved in the game, but we won’t know anything until tomorrow.”

Pressed on Partey's situation, Arteta said: "He’s progressing really well but it was a significant injury. Hopefully it’s going to be weeks and not months and he’s working towards that.

"He needs support and hopefully the injury will heal in the right way and we’ll have him back, because he’s a big player for us.

Arteta added regarding the fitness of club captain Martin Odegaard "He’s still racing (against the clock).

"He’s trying everything that he can so let’s see. It’s a possibility."
