A new week dawns for Arsenal and the focus is on the Emirates Stadium for a Premier League double game week.
The Gunners return to North London after two weeks on the road, picking up wins against Aston Villa and Leicester City for a vital six points.
It was imperative that Mikel Arteta’s side won both games after a sticky patch of form, and now the Gunners go into week 26 of the campaign top of the pile.
It’s important to touch on everything that’s improved at Arsenal this season, as it really has been a chance for us all to consistently enjoy the football that the team play and the results that go with that.
Results aside, the quality of football all over the pitch is contrasting to anything we’ve seen over the last decade, you watch Arsenal and completely understand why we are challenging for our first league title since 2004.
A big hand in this season’s success is our form away from home, I saw a league table of away games only, that see’s Arsenal clear at the top by ten points, picking up 31 points on the road so far this season.
The win against Villa was a late thriller, and the win against Leicester was a hard fought impeccably dominant 1-0 victory.
Speaking after the game, Leicester star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gave an insight in to how it was to face Arsenal when speaking to the media:
“They all work hard for each other, that’s the reason why they’re top of the league. A couple of times we were on the counter, and we looked up and just saw a sea of red.”
Videos have been circulating of Arsenal’s ability to cover and defend the ball in numbers when up against it, as a Leicester move began to gain momentum and as put by the midfielder, a sea of red diffused any threat in seconds.
A sea of red in the stands and a sea of red on the field, it was a delightful day in the East Midlands for Arsenal.
Another video that most have seen after the weekend is that of the away end serenading Arteta after the win.
Our away support has always been top tier, but to see the unity between fans, players and manager is something so special and so worthy of cherishing when football can feel so distant in modern times.
Only Arsenal fans would understand how sweet it is to see the club winning so confidently away from home, when for many years, playing away was a feeling of hope rather than that of expectation.
If you’d have told any of us, we’d be top of the league with a game in hand at the start of March, we’d have laughed in disbelief, but here we are, dreaming of what could be.
The game in hand is huge, beating Everton at the Emirates on Wednesday evening is critical, and could take us five points clear of Manchester City below in second.
With the reintroduction of the Europa League, the Gunners have no time to think, so placing form aside it’s all about mentality and ability to grind out results twice a week.
After this week, just 12 games remain of the Premier League season, I don’t want to think of what could be when we can just enjoy the moments now, but it’s edging closer and closer and I’m asking myself daily, do I dare to dream?
Let’s just dream of three points on Wednesday for now.
