Striker Gabriel Jesus aims to join illustrious list of top scorers in Arsenal

While Arsenal’s exciting new signing Gabriel Jesus was unlucky to have his goal chalked off by VAR during the Gunner’s excellent 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at the weekend, boss Mikel Arteta has been delighted with his form.

The new Gunners striker netted seven goals in five games during pre-season and has already hit the ground running with a brace during the 4-2 victory against Leicester City two weekends ago.

Speaking after the match, delighted boss Arteta said: “We know what Gabby can do. He scored two and assisted two and he's still disappointed in the dressing room because he said he could have scored four.” While the North London giants can boast a raft of illustrious strikers, see our list of top scorers in Arsenal during its long and impressive history, many are already tipping Jesus to reach the 100 club for the Gunners. Arteta added: “That's the standard, that's the mentality that if you want to go to a different level you need that mentality. I wouldn't like to play against him. I have never been a defender but I can imagine that they don't enjoy it. He's so mobile, so intuitive and is always sharp and proactive to play in any moment and any phase of the game and he's a real threat.”

Alongside Jesus another summer capture from Manchester City, Oleksandr Zinchenko has also impressed during his short time at Arsenal.

The Ukrainian was another who caught the eye during the effortless 3-0 triumph on the south coast. The 25-year-old believes that the confidence gained from Arsenal’s fast start against Bournemouth was the major factor in our comfortable 3-0 win at the Vitality Stadium.

Two goals from Martin Odegaard within the opening 11 minutes put us on course for a third straight win, with William Saliba adding a third just after half-time to maintain the Gunners 100 per cent record this term.

Speaking after the win that saw Arsenal top the Premier League, he said: “It’s a great feeling to get three points and we don’t concede a goal.

“It’s always important to score in the beginning of the game because this first goal can give you some confidence to control the game and that’s what we did. We did well, especially in the first half, the opponent didn’t create anything - they had zero shots on target.

“In the second half they started to play with three at the back and we were suffering at some points, but in the end we didn’t concede, that’s the most important thing. There are still a lot of things to improve, but I think we are on the right way.”
