An all-female team grounds team will prepare the pitch at Emirates Stadium for Arsenal Women’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, March 3.
13 grounds professionals, including Arsenal ground staff Bobbie Murphy and Tara Sandford, will hone the Emirates’ pitch for the North London Derby.
The Grounds Management Association [GMA] and Arsenal have collaborated with the WSL and Women in Football in the months leading up to Arsenal’s game against Spurs.
Murphy and Sandford are also working on Arsenal’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on Saturday, February 24.
Sandford said: “Being a part of the first all-female grounds team to prepare a Barclays Women’s Super League match has been hugely exciting for me on both a personal and professional level.
“The consistent level of support we have seen for our women’s team this season shows how much the game continues to grow, and it’s important that we harness this to encourage more girls to pursue a career in football.
“I hope our all-female grounds team showcases the different opportunities that exist within football and inspires more women to get into the game.”
The 13 women involved come from a variety of sporting and educational venues, including the likes of Lord’s Cricket Ground, St George’s Park and Middlesbrough Football Club.
Over 50,000 tickets have been sold for Arsenal’s match against Tottenham at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners sold out the Emirates for the first time in the WSL last Saturday, with 60,160 tickets sold for their recent win over Manchester United.
