Additions bode well for summer recruitment drive...

One of the best things about this victory were the performances of the newer recruits to our squad. Jakub Kiwior gave an assured display at the back, one that can give us confidence that while having three top class centre backs is a must have for a campaign including the Champions League it might have even be ticked off before the shopping starts.

Jorginho takes a lot of stick considering he's nearly won everything there is to win in the modern game.

Maybe it's his link to Chelsea, but it's great the fans are now warming to him.

He's played an important part in midfield, showing our loan business is right too. Loans are difficult to execute and full of downsides, Edu and his team deserve credit and if they get the reported "war chest" we are in line for a fun summer and following seasons.

What goes around, comes around Eddie...

Levels of audacity and hypocrisy sometimes need a new scale when viewed through a football lens, but Eddie Howe's take on our style of play in this game certainly tops any measurements you are likely to find.

I had previewed the game on Talksport earlier that morning and did remind the hosts, who were predicting a thriller, that Newcastle had ruined the match at the Emirates in January. I went as far as saying their tactics that winter night were a 'football crime'.

Howe's take on the 'ball in play' ignore the fact that his team exploit the longest restarts in the league at last count - well over half a minute.

We also played to win, which can't be said of his team four months ago. The scoreline was a decent revenge for that reverse fixture - and our last visit a year ago.

Odegaard stepped up in a big game...

I've taken a bit of stick (some justified, some not so) since my column after the Manchester City defeat demanding that captain Martin Odegaard stepped up when the chips were down.

Well the chips were certainly down going into last week in which we had games against a 'big 6' club at home and a pretender to that sextet away from home - off the back of four winless games.

Our captain delivered with three goals and dominant performances across both games and even threw in a heart-warming call to Gooners who had made the journey to the north east, while they were on the train home.

You can't question any of that and I'll politely retire my demands, for now.
