After a string of busy transfer windows for Arsenal Women, January 2024 was a case of doing business early and efficiently for the Gunners’ recruitment team and head coach Jonas Eidevall.
Right-back Emily Fox and short-term signing Sarah Bouhaddi, an experienced French goalkeeper, were Arsenal’s only incomings in January.
Noelle Maritz was sold to Aston Villa to free up space in the squad for USA international Fox to join, before Kathrine Kuhl and Gio Queiroz went out on loan to Everton and Madrid CFF respectively.
Reflecting on the transfer window, Jonas Eidevall said: “I think we’re not looking for quantity, we’re looking for quality.
“I think we have been investing heavily in the background with our recruitment team, and that obviously doesn’t give an effect the first week there are people in the building, but it starts to give us real positive effects now, being able to be really proactive with our squad planning, and being able to do things much earlier than we have been able to before.
“So I hope that the feeling of us being frantic and so on, I hope we will not feel that, but also for us as a club that can be doing business as early as possible, for both getting people settled in to work long-term, that is really the plan and I think that we’re at a much better stage now to be able to do so than we were for example, two-and-a-half years ago.”
