Arsenal centre back William Saliba has opened up about life in recent times in north London speaking after the derby win.

The Frenchman played a pivotal part in Arsenal’s sensational 2-0 win against Tottenham, keeping Harry Kane out of the match for 90 minutes.

Speaking to the Evening Standard after the game, Saliba was overjoyed with the win which not only marked a famous away north London derby win, but a statement to the rest as Arsenal went eight points clear at the top.

“We are so happy because the derby is a big game, and it was an away game. We know it’s not easy to win at their stadium, so we are so happy.”

It’s Saliba’s first proper season in red and white, despite signing in 2019, the Frenchman has undergone three loan spells preparing him for this introduction to the Premier League.

What a player Arsenal have on their hands, cool, quick, composed and committed, the 21-year-old has it all.

It’s been an incredible season so far for Arsenal, sitting comfortably at the top with no question of whether or not they deserve it, the Gunners have been the best team in England this season.

Saliba spoke about the pressure of leading the title race:

“There’s no pressure because we play for that. It’s better to have this pressure when you are at the top, it’s better to keep going like this and we don’t have to have pressure.”

Arsenal’s win at Tottenham took them eight points clear at the summit after Manchester City’s defeat to Manchester United, Saliba shrugged off Arsenal’s lead.

“Eight points clear? It’s never enough. We know we have a lot of games to go. We have to be focused because things can change quickly. If we lose one game, after we can have no confidence, so we have to be focused on keeping going and trying to win. We focus on ourselves.”

United have found form in recent fixtures, they travel to the Emirates this weekend of what will be a colossal fixture at the top of the table. The centre back is looking for revenge.

“They are the only team to beat us this season in the Premier League and we want to beat them again at home. We will prepare for this game very well I think, and I hope we will win in front of our fans.”

On a final note, Saliba simmered down any worry of contract talks, telling the media of his contentment at Arsenal.

“I am so happy here. The club is speaking with my agent and me, the only thing I can do is focus on my football. I am so happy here.”
