Arsene Wenger should stay positive…

Arsene Wenger should stay positive…

Le Boss: Might as well go for it

I think everyone would agree that Arsene is not the most tactically aware manager. He has been found wanting on many occasions due to his tactical decisions, which is probably his biggest fault. He tends to go for the negative option in big games, which goes against his football ethics. Also he claims to not worry about the other team only what his team can do. This seems to be the case until we come to the big games when that all goes out the window.

Arsene is at his best when he is positive but there are teams such as Chelsea and Man Utd that he obviously worries about. The only time we got away with this negative approach was in the 2005 FA Cup final against Man Utd. Perhaps he listens to all those people who claim he should have a plan B. Perhaps he remembers the 2001 FA Cup final against Liverpool when we dominated and got beaten. There is no doubt that he lingers on these defeats probably longer than most fans. Those defeats obviously influence his thinking.

The truth is in football you sometimes lose when you deserve to win and vice versa. There is no doubt since Arsene has been at the club we have lost more trophies we deserved to win than won ones we did not. This is not a Knock Arsene piece as I still think he is very much the man for the job. He loves Arsenal and hates losing as much as any fan. He has brought a playing style to the club that will see Arsenal classed as one of the great footballing teams for many years to come.

He continually brings great players to the club. I do think he should always pick his strongest team (except in the League Cup which is a good grounding place for future players). By following this rule we surely could not have any more injuries than we already are getting.

In the Chelsea semi if we had played our quick passing game we probably would have won although nothing is ever guaranteed. Don't forget we had four out of five of our first choice defence out. Also Djourou - next in line - was also out. The pitch was a joke. You could see it cutting up when the players were running in the warm up.

For once Arsene was generous as it was our quick passing it affected most. It was a game that could have gone either way and neither team had cause for complaint whoever won. Coming out of the ground I saw Frank McLintock who looked totally dejected berating the fact we did not have a decent shot in the second half. If only the modern players cared as much. I love Tony Adams but Frank will always be the club’s No 1 captain for me.

Anyway Arsene please stay positive it is what you know best.
