My last piece was on the Fulham game a long time ago. Life as a medical student can be as tiring as hell, and I’ve been running up and down the neurology wards this month, so I’ve found some time to write only today.
We head to Molineux Stadium knowing we’re on the train of the top four, knocking Tottenham down to their level in good old fashion last week, with an artistic display of football, Arsenal-style. Man City seem to have lost that initial brilliance and they’re at the ‘top’ (poor Sparky) just because of that lucky period. They’ll realise they lack quality when they face us in Carling Cup at the end of the month (hoping Arsène is going to field the same mix of youth and experience as for the Liverpool game). Man Utd are heading to Stamford Bridge in what will be a really tough match. Today, playing against Wolves is our manna from heaven. We should try to close the gap, knowing that we’ve got a game in hand, too.
Previously this season, I had criticized Robin van Persie’s attitude, he didn’t really seem good enough to me for playing in the centre, but I admit he has silenced me.
He’s getting braver, and stronger, he’s less afraid of trying to dribble now and, most of all, he’s scoring plenty of goals. This season’s firepower, Arsène said, is the best he’s had in years; the strong defensive partnership between Tom Vermaelen and William Gallas is really helping us. They really seem to love each other - in a football way. How could we have gone on this year with Gallas and Tourè as a divorced couple?? Talking about the fantastic firepower on show this year with my dearest friend (and football expert), Simone, he showed me how Cesc Fabregas has improved incredibly this year, due mainly to his new position.
Let’s enjoy the best of Cesc this year, I can already see him play in a red and blue shirt, sold to Barcelona for a packet of crisps.
Samir Nasri back on the field, and scoring, was the greatest news on Wednesday night, apart from the win over that lower tier football team of AZ Alkmaar.
My general impression this year is that we’re going to have the same Champions League form we had in 2005/06 (the CL final year) and we’re definitely going to win something on home soil. To be honest, I can see only Chelsea and Arsenal battling it out this year for the Premier League title; Man Utd were not up to it when it came to destroying an already defunct Liverpool team at Anfield Road.
Liverpool itself is, really, the expression of the decaying modern football club, put in foreign (Yankee) hands. It’s a tough season for them, I can’t seem them at the top. Man City will implode when Robinho starts crying about a move to Barcelona, tired of grimy Manchester and Greedybayor starts to request more money for his loyalty to the club.
There’s no point in talking about Tottenham and old ‘Arry here, we’re talking about the top four, you know..
So, today we face a tough match. Nobody in the Premier League lets you win easily, apart from Tottenham of course. As I already said last month, we can win the Premier League by winning these apparently stupid matches. We’ve already dropped two points at Upton Park, and that was definitely not good. But I’m sure the guys will turn up on the turf with the idea in mind of not throwing the season to the… Wolves.
