Some transfer activity in the New Year could get the season back on track

Kroenke: Would he inject funds?

I haven’t written for the website for so long as I’ve been laid out with swine flu. But I’ve sat at home and watched helpless as we capitulated against Sunderland, laboured against Liege and then got blown away by Chavski - that defeat made my birthday even worse.

Have all the energetic early season displays plus meaningless international commitments caught up with the players? Yes we’ve lost RVP, Clichy and Bendtner but you would think we have enough in the squad to have beaten Sunderland at least, then Sunday’s defeat wouldn’t have been so bad points wise and now the Spuds are on top of us again.

It’s not good reading going into Xmas. Tough away games against Liverpool, Burnley and Pompey await plus Villa and Hull at home. We cannot afford to lose any more otherwise we may face a real big battle for 4th place again. Also, now that RVP is out for the season, in January Wenger MUST buy a proven striker from somewhere, a holding midfielder to cover for Song and a centre-back that’s better than Silvestre and Senderos and get rid of the deadwood in the squad like Gilbert and Hoyte.

The keeper situation should be addressed in the summer. There’s no point buying a new keeper mid-season as he needs time to get to know his defence, that is what pre-season is for. I’m not too worried if they are cup-tied for the Champions League as we need to sort our league form out first or we won’t even make the Europa League next season.

I’m reading all these things about Wenger getting sacked – it’s nonsense and you know that’s not going to happen with the current board in place, unless ‘Silent Stan’ takes full control. I think that is what we need. We’ve done as well as we could have in the current financial climate so a little extra cash for the manager (and not for stadium repayments) which Stan can offer us without plunging further into debt wouldn’t be so bad.

Unless we go down the road of Citeh and let some mega-rich Sheikh buy us then all our money worries would be over and Wenger would have no excuse not to buy ready-made stars. But our club is not like that. Chelsea are strong at the moment, but they were last year to start with before we beat them and they dropped more points so that United ended up champions. Plus we have a game in hand which is a home game so there is more pressure on them than us regarding the championship.
