So Wenger has another chance to buy Shay Given 12 months after he let him slip through his fingers. Now that Cech is in decline it's undisputed that Given is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, unsettled and could be tempted away. Does anyone think Wenger will take the plunge? It's obvious to all of us that the defence has no confidence in Almunia and nice chap that he seems to be it's time for Wenger to show his ruthless side like he did with Merson, Wright and Vieira.
I'm reminded of standing at an FA Cup replay at Loftus Road back in 1990 and have the dubious distinction of having chanted at the QPR goalie that night "You'll never play for Arsenal!" - along with a few hundred others I might add. The summer came and it was goodbye John Lukic and hello David Seaman.
I remember George Graham said in a TV interview that "Lukic was very good but in my view Seaman was the best and that's why I bought him". George was right. So Arsene, I'd like to recommend that Almunia is a nice guy but Shay Given is the best, go and get him!
I know everyone wants a striker but all I want for Christmas is Shay Given in an Arsenal shirt!
