Something troubles me about Armoury Square

Will your brick be allowed to weather naturally or simply get dug up after a decade?

Something troubles me about Armoury Square

How it will look… until 2020 at any rate

There are mixed messages about the personalised bricks Arsenal are selling for the Armoury Square concept. Obviously these things won’t last forever, but there is a very different tone between the q&a information and the contractual stuff.

Here’s the version that’s meant to seduce you into parting with a minimum of £50…

How long will the stones last?
The stones will last indefinitely, however, we can only guarantee that they will be in the walkway for 10 years. This is the minimum but we have every reason to believe they will be there for years to come.

Then, when it comes to the time to make a payment…

Arsenal FC retains the right to move or relocate (at any time) a Product at its discretion; and may permanently remove or destroy the Product on or after the tenth anniversary of its installation.

Hmmmm…. Wonder if buyers might need to make another payment in 2020 to preserve their spot? Or maybe the whole thing will be ripped up.

I was going to buy one for £50, but the small print dissuaded me. The idea behind my purchase was that my brick would outlive me, even if it looked like a faded tombstone by the time I met my demise.

‘Fans & Legends Together, Forever Arsenal’ goes the blurb. Note the critical location of that comma! As it stands, I simply don’t trust the club and have decided against making a purchase. Bit of PR work to do with this particular customer by the looks of things.

Always read the small print…
