Let’s hope Sol keeps the boat steady

Outsider on the inside?

Sol: ‘Has come home’

The news of Sol’s imminent return to the fold has no doubt had us all feeling warm and fuzzy inside during this cold snap. Sol was a true rock during the early noughties and the fact he came to us from the Spuds, still sits very uncomfortably with the mugs down the road. And we get to go through it all again now which is an added bonus. “Sol has come home” was just one of many shots I fired at a particular mouthy Spud I work with, it was so nice to see him physically wince.

Can he do a job? Like Vieira at City, probably on a part time basis, yes he can. But will his return rock the boat? The departure of Adebarndoor and Kolo had an obvious calming effect on Messrs Gallas and Van Persie.

Since which time, Gallas and Vermaelen have formed a steady, if not always solid partnership, which is probably the best we have had for a good few season now, well, since Sol left first time round. And the general team spirit seems to be at the highest point it has been since the Invincibles, which Sol was very much a part of. Maybe Arsene is hoping for some “Invincibles spirit” to rub off during the run-in.

Whatever AW’s thinking is, let’s hope we don’t see a repeat of Birmingham ‘08 when Gallas well and truly spat the dummy and our title challenge crumbled before our eyes. Whatever else may happen, the writing is on the wall for Senderos.

Arsene may also have to start looking to strengthen other areas before we head into the Villa, Man U, Chelski and Scouser matches. Even the Invincibles spirit may not be enough to see us come through the other side of those four with our challenge still intact.

So onto a double header with our old chums from Bolton. A new manager at the helm brings a new complexion to what would have otherwise been a pretty straightforward six points with Megson still at the helm. Methinks that Sunday especially, may not be as comfortable as first thought.
