Gallas: Was he actually on the pitch after the interval v Everton?

What a wacky last two weeks. First of all, the events in Cabinda involving the Togolese national team were shocking. Even though an ex-player who is scum to us was nearly killed, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Should Song and Eboue have come back? I think so, but then the terrorists have won and it would be disappointing to call off a tournament in those circumstances. But life is more important than any sport.

Closer to home, a little bit of snow and the whole country comes to a virtual standstill. The Bolton game was called off midweek for safety reasons, which you can understand - but judging by the performance against Everton, we might as well have called that one off too. Even though myself and 59,000 others were freezing our proverbials off, the players clearly weren’t ready for it both physically and mentally. Even in the warm-up, a lot of them had that look on their face that they would rather be tucked up at home with a nice cup of cocoa, while Everton, full credit to them, turned in a great performance and were unlucky not to score more than two. I still can’t understand how Leon Osman, the smallest bloke on the pitch, gets above Gallas and scores but on another day Denilson heads that off the line. It was that type of game.

The two mysterious injuries of Gallas and Denilson made it look all the more bizarre, as Gallas continued, although I didn’t notice, and Denilson was stretchered off but was apparently up and about in the dressing room after. It was the strangest match that I have ever seen. Nevertheless we snatched another late equalizer in a game that on paper you would think is a home banker and we keep the momentum going - just.

Wenger keeps saying that he would like to complete any signings asap, but the market is very quiet. If anything, a lot of deals are being made for the summer - but we need reinforcements now. Saturday rubber-stamped that. When the pass, pass, pass method isn’t working, for God’s sake have a dig, it’s better than trying to walk the ball in like we usually try to do. Somebody like Higuain, Van Der Vaart or Rodallega, who’s not afraid to shoot from distance, would be perfect as they all have a physical presence that we are lacking. Alternatively, Eduardo and a few others staying in the box would be nice.

My money is on Wenger waiting till deadline day. Bit like going to Tesco’s just before they close to pick up the bargains. It needs to be done because the s**t really hits the fan from the end of January through till March. Bolton (H), Stoke (A), Villa (A) Utd (H), Cheslki (A), Porto (A), Liverpool (H). These six games will determine what we will do this year. With the current team, minus RVP and Bendtner and the fear of inadequate cover, I dread to think what will happen.

PV4 joining Citeh is purely a financial motivation rather than a sporting one, like any other mug who goes there. He’s played less than 20 games in four years so although I was a bit miffed that we didn’t get him last summer, I can see a good reason why. He’s not the PV4 that we knew and loved so I’m not worried. Although the reputation that he built up here is at stake and I would hate to see him embarrass himself as the Premier League has got harder and faster since he moved to Serie A.

Another ugly win yesterday at Bolton, but they all count come May. We have the perfect chance to go top this evening. We’ve worked so hard, let’s not choke now.
