My allegiance is to Arsenal, not Arsène

Disaffected former season ticket holder sees a legacy being squandered

My allegiance is to Arsenal, not Arsène

Has one man become bigger than the club?

I'm beginning to despise the 'Arsène Knows' brigade more than the comical Spurs and vile Chelsea followers. They are the ones that feel to me like a fifth column. They are the traitors, not us dissenters.

It has dawned on me what has happened at Arsenal over the past ten years. These fans no longer actually support Arsenal but support Arsene Wenger.

There was a spell during the last decade when it was apparent that a number of our best players pledged their allegiance to Arsene rather than Arsenal. It was said that should he go all our talent would do one too. It would annoy the hell out of me that a mighty club like ours was considered second fiddle to the mere mortal Mr Wenger. So although Wenger deserves the recognition for his achievements, when I see him begin to squander that legacy I believe I should speak up - because Arsenal is where my allegiance is, not Mr Wenger.

Incidentally I have been a season ticket holder for the past fifteen years but gave it up this season because I felt I was being ripped off. There have been obvious additions the squad needed over the past five years that have been ignored while we are still charged the most expensive entrance fee in the entire world. The team needs a spine and needs to find some spine. Long may The Gooner carry on speaking up for the Arsenal fans that remain at Ashburton Grove.
