The Spanish Waiter: Surely he won’t be picked today?

From Chris Matcham
Just read the editorial by Kevin Whitcher regarding the pathetic excuse for a game last Sunday at the Grove. I could not agree more. I particularly agree with the text that read Amateurs 1 Professionals 3. Says it all I feel.

When oh when is there going to be some realism at Arsenal. I also agree that the result against Chelsea is a given, Arsenal will lose. Not good enough – nowhere near good enough. But will the club strengthen what is clearly a sub-standard squad? We know the answer to that as well. (This was received during transfer deadline day)

Why should I continue paying £1200 for my season ticket (and you can double that with getting to the games etc) to see no realistic chance of silverware? If the manager is not prepared to change then perhaps the manager should be changed.

I’m all for giving players a chance but Almunia is now a liability and is going to cost us a lot more points this season. Any notion that we can win the league has now been firmly destroyed and I’m dreading the visit to Stamford Bridge.

The keeper does not inspire confidence in anyone, which is never a good sign. I haven’t really got much else to say about him. In fairness he wasn’t the only one who was rubbish against United. Rosicky and Nasri gave Arshavin next to no support at all. The little Russian tried his heart out but no one supported him. When I saw the midfield line-ups I thought Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes would overrun Denilson, Fabregas and Song and that’s exactly what happened.

From Adrian Wagenaar
Regarding Almunia, the first goal says everything about his inability to be able to react quickly enough - he simply has a flawed starting position due to an inability to be up on his toes. He is technically ok but physically he is not built to be a keeper.

From now till the end of the season it must be anyone but Almunia, the others also make mistakes but that is due to a lack of games. They will get better, unfortunately Almunia will not!

(Ed’s note - Finally, reflecting on the game last weekend, I received this subtle gag from Seva, a Russian Gooner. It made me smile.)
