It seems that an angry mob wielding pitchforks, scythes and blazing torches are on their way to seize Baron Wengenstein’s Castle, further angered by more disappointment against Chelski on Sunday. Besides being desperate for a brain donor, Spoony and “606” were crying out for anyone to phone in and defend Le Boss against this angry mob on Five Live after the game.
I will go so far to say that I would agree with Le Boss that the January transfer window is a waste of time as far as waving the chequebook is concerned. This is because top quality players are already cup tied and greedy middlemen drive up prices so as to make even stopgap purchases exorbitant to even the likes of Arsenal. I also sympathise that Arsenal have had a horrendous run of fixtures against the top sides but at least we are now left with an easier run of fixtures, for whatever that may be worth, come May.
The true test of Wenger will come in the summer when we will see if he has a clear out and buys in the players he is being told (from all quarters) that he needs to buy. To the list of goalkeeper, midfield muslcemen and the targetmen up front I would add an “organiser” who can bawl out players when they fall asleep on duty and better still, remind them to guard the posts and man mark properly.
What hurt most about the United and Chelski defeats is that Arsenal appear to be getting worse and are not learning from previous humiliations. I won’t go into detail because you can read all about this in the numerous posts on this very website. It’s a pity the quality we’ve been treated to by the bloggers can’t be reproduced out on the pitch.
The angry mob were out in force at the United game, jumping up and down and swearing at players some of them they couldn’t even name. I have a horrible feeling I will be needing my ear plugs and safety goggles on Wednesday night again.
