Maybe, just maybe. Fortunately, we can't lose any more points to United or Chelsea; and they have to play each other.
Last night against Liverpool was not a classic - the first half was pretty poor all round, both sides misplacing passes all over the place and hardly a chance worthy of the name. We were better in the second; Rosicky should have scored (or at least forced a save from Reina) when AA23 played him in and you could argue Bendtner was unlucky to be booked when he was clearly fouled. Although it was in the area, it was not the kind of foul that refs like to give penalties for, irrespective of the letter of the law. Finally, the goal, which came through a striker's perseverance: this was not the first time this season where Bendtner's hold-up play has played people in to create a chance from which we scored. Memo to Mr Wenger: playing a striker helps!
Almunia's save from Babel was very good, as was Cesc's from the free-kick at the end. We got away with that one, but Liverpool didn't deserve much, if anything, from the game. They are good at stifling people, not much else. We can complain about our strike force, or lack of one recently, but at least we have some strikers when they are fit. Liverpool without Torres? Rubbish.
Looking at the run in, I guess we can feel we have a chance of getting closer to the top two; have we enough to overhaul them? Well, having gifted them 12 points, to be only six behind today could be seen as a positive. As I noted above, they have to play each other, but where else will they drop points?
Neither of them will drop many at home, but United have to go to City and Chelsea to Liverpool, both of which could be draws. But for United and Chelsea to be reined in, I think we will have to win all our games (which includes Stoke away!) and hope for something really unexpected to happen somewhere to the top two. It might happen. I hope it does, but I can't see it, at least not yet. Still, I am off to get new glasses next week, so that might change.
