Wot? No white sleeves

‘New kit’ image surely a wind up

Wot? No white sleeves

Here it is – but we’re not buying it (in all senses of the word)

If you were really quick you may have noticed at least one Arsenal website on Sunday leaking what was questioned to be the possible new 2010-2011 home kit, as designed by Nike. Essentially this was an all red abomination with a fat white trim at the end of its short sleeves together with a prominent white collar. Not all the shirt could be viewed, and certainly not any shorts or socks. Now it has to be said that the picture didn't look anything like a genuine photograph but that's never stopped such speculation in previous seasons doing the rounds. In fact new shirt scooping is a game quite a few Arsenal sites on the web engage in.

I also find it difficult to comprehend just why our captain, for it was he, would be modelling such an early sample in February when the earliest it is likely to appear in a match would be July. Granted it could be in the shops by June but why would it be seen as early as February? That said what I find even more bizarre is that although the shirt didn't look genuine, and please Dennis it hopefully wasn't. The website in question withdrew the picture rapidly enough for it to be seen as a request/order/ultimatum from on high to do so. Why on earth - if it wasn't the real McCoy - were they seemingly forced to withdraw it so promptly?

A mystery wrapped in an enigma and posing as a puzzle. I don't get it, and I certainly hope we don't get lumbered with the shirt in question.

But as to my real reason for writing this guff? Well I very strongly believe, as do numerous others, that a shirt without white sleeves is not an Arsenal shirt. Our current abomination is a poor man’s ex-Charlton or Ebbsfleet shirt so I refuse either to purchase or wear it. Never again do I wish to see an Arsenal home shirt devoid of white sleeves. The final Highbury shirt I could live with only due to the special circumstances, not to mention the very crass and obvious marketing opportunity, but never again. I certainly won't wear our current Tottenham away shirt and nor would I wear a United shirt. Nor will I wear another Arsenal home shirt devoid of white sleeves. Quite apart from which - what trophies do we ever win whilst wearing all red abominations? Quite!

Over to you Mr Gazidis - please ensure our new home shirts actually look like Arsenal shirts this time around.

(Ed’s note – we have it on good authority that our new CEO is well aware of the fans’ feelings (and privately is in agreement with them) to such an extent that the shirt pictured will not be next season’s home shirt. Glad we’ve cleared that one up)
