Anfield 89 – Were you there?

So you wanna see your mug on the telly do you?

Anfield 89 – Were you there?

That Mickey moment – If you were at Anfield, your satellite channel needs you

It’s very much a morning of clearing the decks and doing a few good turns. The laws of karma mean that my team will win the Premier League title and the European Cup by the end of this season. Right? Anyway, without further ado, here’s the text of an email received from a production company that makes programmes for (doubtless among others) ESPN – not the individuals who commentate on and analyse Arsenal games, so they’re forgiven!

Here at Zig Zag Productions we are producing a series for ESPN on great sporting moments. One of these moments was the title race in 1989 and I was hoping that your readers might be able to help.

Our series, due to be broadcast on ESPN Classic in Summer 2010, is called ‘Sports Years’. We are producing 17 episodes where each one will document what happened in sport by specific years. In our 1989 episode we will talk about the main football events, Wimbledon, The Open and a few other stories. One of the stories will focus on the final day of the season when Liverpool played Arsenal for the title and we are looking for fans who may have good anecdotal stories to tell from this game.

The series has a very specific format where we not only interview the sports personalities from that era but we also hear personal ‘I was there’ stories from fans or those behind the scenes. These stories can come from anyone such as the physio, the tea boy, journalists, agents, fans or photographers. We want this series to allow our viewers to know what it was like to be there at these notable moments and I was hoping that some of the Arsenal fans that read your website may be able to help in doing just that.

If they were there and might be interested in appearing on the programme, please could you ask them to email me - [email protected] - if senders could include the wording ‘Arsenal at Anfield’ in the subject line it would help immensely.
