Laughing at the Spuds

Are the dice falling for Arsenal ahead of this evening’s game?

Sunday semi: Just what the Arsenal doctor ordered?

Usually Spurs' inhibitions and failings do not interest me in the slightest. However I was slightly perturbed at the chance of them winning the FA Cup for the first time in 19 years. It’s a trophy I still consider fairly major even if Le Boss has forsaken it in recent years. Was it really 19 years ago that Gazza's free kick sailed over Seaman and killed our chances of a double? It only seems yesterday, although we have beaten them in plenty of semi finals since to make up for that.

However as I completed my Sunday run through Barnet it seemed as if all the Spurs fans who had been hiding for so long finally came out of the woodwork. The sight of blue and white scarves caused a certain amount of nausea (it was either that or the energy drinks), so as I hit the wall at the 15th mile I started to put positive thoughts in my head, namely anti-Spurs ones. I hoped for a tough game in their semi final v Portsmouth, extra time for the Spuds, a few injuries/suspensions and a demoralising defeat. The football gods decided on Sunday to write a comedy script starring Tottenham Hotspur.

Now with the derby looming this evening let’s put to bed any thoughts that they should have of being mentioned in the same breath as us. Spurs fans may point out to our humiliation at Barcelona, but there is no disgrace in losing to one of the greatest teams that has graced the Champions League, lead by the best player in the world. Spurs lost to a bankrupt, relegated outfit that proved the FA Cup still has some magic.

Looking to the derby, let’s hope Song is back and that Bendtner is beginning to show the true form which hopefully he can take into the next campaign. Nasri should find playing in the middle much easier than last week, and Walcott should expose the tired Spuds full backs. He is the last player you want to go up against after 120 minutes on the previous Sunday. Looking beyond that, I hope we soundly spank Spurs at the Lane and take full advantage of United's slip up. With Spurs at rock bottom I can see them playing against Chelsea with a point to prove.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?
