I’d welcome Mourinho at Arsenal

But only after Arsene’s had the chance to splash some cash

I’d welcome Mourinho at Arsenal

Jose: Is this what Arsenal need?

"I am very happy at Inter. I am not happy in Italian Football. I don't like it and they don't like me. Simple."

Bottom lip quivers. Poor Jose. He doesn't seem to be getting the attention from the Italian media that his personality craves. How dare they not appreciate him and everything about him? The special one. The above statement is a puppy eyed application for the Real Madrid job, or any top placement that might be available in England come this summer, made in the build up to Inter's game with Chelsea.

Ah, England, those green, green fields. How Mourinho longs for a return to the bosom of the English press, who adore him and hang on his every word. His press conference before Inter Milan's second leg at Stamford Bridge turned into 'an afternoon with Jose', the gathered hacks chuckled along to each answer, whilst sighing at the fact he is no longer theirs. They miss him, and he misses being loved. A return to England would, understandably, suit both parties, and you have to concede the Premiership is a brighter place with his own kind of entertainment.

However, a return to these shores to manage a top (scrub that!) 'big' four side might prove a little difficult this summer. Liverpool would have to find £30m to lose Benitez, and another £30m to fund a Jose revolution on Merseyside. Ideally, he would love to take control of Manchester United, should Ferguson retire to the scotch. There is a chance that could happen in the summer, should United win the Premiership, as the nineteenth title would eclipse the despised Anfield marker. Old red face might feel the time is right, but it's no banker. You cannot imagine Roman Abramovich being selfless enough to admit he made a mistake in firing the back to back title winner and give him another chance, despite the desire of most Chavsea fans. So that leaves The Arsenal, and the following question:

As we head towards another silverless campaign, would you happily let Arsene go, thanking him on the way, for the promise of Jose Mourinho and a five year reign at the Ashburton helm?

I am a proud member of the 'Arsene knows' brigade, despite some 25% of the onlinegooner articles deciding the youthful experiment has failed. Yet it was still the question I asked immediately after seeing this particular Mourinho interview. You see, despite the arrogance, despite the hate you chucked his way whilst he was spending Roman's millions, you cannot argue with one 'simple' fact. He is brilliant. Entertaining and funny, as long as it is not at Arsenal's expense. He is also a fantastic manager. A winner.

Silverware doesn't lie. Since 2002 he has won five league titles, a European Cup, the UEFA Cup and six domestic cups. He hasn't lost a home league game since 2002. Players love him. They give everything for him, as was seen during his time with Chelsea and again more recently when his Inter Milan side totally outplayed his former flock. In an interview during the build up to Inter's first leg with Barca, the impressive Sneijder said, "I am not worried about the game, he (Mourinho) will find a way. He will show us things that nobody else could". What trust, what confidence in his manager, and rightly so.

Where Barca dominated the majority of both legs against Arsenal, Jose's Inter never gave them the chance in the first leg. The Argentinian contingent amongst Inter's ranks of Cambiasso and Zanetti knew how to deal with the magical Messi in ways we simply couldn't figure. Inter had the experience and the defence that we lacked, they hassled, worked and closed the Catalans down, but, more than that, they had Mourinho.

His time at Chelsea and Inter Milan have both been bankrolled, teams put together with huge investment, but there is still no denying the man is a winner.

Despite the current low in the aftermath of the Wigan debacle, Wenger has given us so much in creating the modern Arsenal. We are known and admired across the world for the fantastic brand of football we play. He has given us wonderful players, who in turn have created memorable moments, none more so than the underrated achievement of the unbeaten season. His success paved the way for the move to the new stadium and he has kept us in the Champions League while we scrimp and save to pay it off. Pretty soon that debt is going to be paid off, with more funds available. At that time, Arsene deserves the opportunity to be the one who spends it with the aim of adding trophies to the achievement of the stadium.

If Mourinho does depart San Siro come May, I hope he finds his way to Santiago Bernabeu. First. Then, should a spell in Madrid conveniently end around the same time Arsene decides it's time to manage France, I'd happily take the special one.
