In early May, having lost at Sp*rs, mighty Wigan and Fat Sam Rovers, Arsene uncharacteristically announced he was ready, willing and able to pounce in the transfer market.
He said he doesn’t believe that it’s worth waiting until after the World Cup, as prices can be “artificial” and continued, “I have definite transfer targets and I have been talking to people but I will not tell you to who. I believe the earlier you settle your team the better it is and the less anxiety you have.”
This was good news. At long last our genius manager realised that as priorities we need a goalkeeper who is not allergic to spherical objects, a couple of centre halves to make up for the three or four who are leaving and a defensive midfielder to ensure that Song doesn't continue his monopoly on tackling opponents outside our penalty area.
So six weeks later with the World Cup underway I presume that Wenger, true as ever to his word, has now completed his transfer business for the coming season.
During the pre-World Cup phase of the silly season we’ve been “linked” with just over 100 players and of these he’s bought... er, Chamakh.
So now we can all look forward to 2010/2011 with total confidence can’t we?
