Sale of skipper would betray the Wenger ethos

If Fabregas is sold I say we demonstrate outside The E******s Stadium

Cesc: Wants away, but might actually stay

With all of the endless press stories about Fabregas' supposed move to Barcelona, I feel that if (as we always seem to do... Vieira, Toure, Hleb, Overmars, Cole) we roll over and accept a penny less than his true value (I would say in the region of £50m) then we should vote with our feet and demonstrate outside The E******s.

Firstly, Cesc is the best in the world in his position, and if Ronaldo is worth £80m then Cesc is definitely worth at least £50m. Secondly, he is the heartbeat of our side and if he leaves it would be a huge step backwards in our quest to end the trophy drought. Roy Hodgson recently stated that if Torres was to leave Liverpool it would be a huge step backwards and I honestly feel that Cesc is more valuable to our club than Torres is to Liverpool.

The most important reason in my eyes however is that, by selling Cesc, the whole Wenger ethos, and "we are building for the future" schpeel that we as Arsenal fans (who let’s not forget pay the most for a season ticket in the whole country) hear year on year becomes a complete fabrication and untruth. By selling Cesc it is clear that the Arsenal model is one of 99% business and 1% sport. A player who has grown at our club and come to fruition has been sold for a large profit and another youngster comes in to take his place. In turn, he will develop, we will watch him to large frustration for the first three years (like Vela and Bendtner now to name a couple) until he bears fruit, and then he will be sold. In return the club receive a tidy sum each year from our own hard earned pockets, in the form of season tickets, to watch these kids develop and then leave.

I for one (if Cesc leaves) will see this as the final straw. I am fed up of the board hiding behind Wenger and accepting second best, not pulling their finger out, and not recognising that ending up trophyless and consistently receiving a hiding from Man Utd, Chelsea, even Spurs last season, is not acceptable. Wenger is always the one in the firing line, the board quietly shy away and let the manager front it. I feel that by venting our feelings if Fabregas departs hopefully the board will begin to get the message. With Man City, and Spurs strengthening and the general standard of the Premier League rising, we need to reaffirm our status as a top club, before top players do not see us as a big club anymore or we miss out on Champions League football.
