The sale of Eduardo has brought to a very sad end an Arsenal career which promised so much. When we signed Ed I knew instantly we had a player of skill, pace and a goalscorer’s instinct, and just as he was settling into the Premiership pace, he was cut down by the Brum thug.
We all feared the worst when this happened, but he came back and on his full return v Cardiff in the FA Cup he looked fantastic and showed no signs of fearing a tackle. But as the weeks went by it was obvious he was no longer willing to risk a further serious injury going into a 50-50 with another mindless hacker from the north. His form dipped and he somehow fell below Bendtner in the pecking order.
Even though he only wore the colours a little over 60 times and netted just 20 goals, I will remember Eduardo as a true Gunners legend. A true fans’ favourite.
But mostly a true gentlemen for taking the abuse and hacking without ever seeking retribution on an opposing keeper or defender. He must, as we do, think “if only”.
All the best Ed…
