The danger of American owners

Randy Lerner has proved less of the good guy, so what about Stan Kroenke?

The danger of American owners

Martin O’Neill – Could not maintain trans-Atlantic alliance

The departure of Martin O'Neill from Aston Villa at the start of the week does raise some interesting questions concerning our club. First off it seems O’Neill left due to a dispute with Randy Lerner in terms of financing. Apparently when the manager was first brought in they got on like a house on fire, but as is usually the case with football money and a manager's requirements things soon ended in the wrong way. Randy seemed quite keen to sell Villa's player assets and take the money, denying O'Neill the right to rebuild the squad. This could mean that Aston Villa have a few players which could be sold. Of course looking at the goalkeeping situation, surely a bid for Friedel wouldn’t go amiss or possibly another centre back in the shape in Dunne?

It would seems that Randy Lerner could be trying to get back some of his investment in the club or possibly he needs cash to invest in his NFL franchise. Surely just a bid or enquiry for some players couldn't hurt?

Shipping eight goals in the final three pre-season games our goalkeeping issues have been repeated more times than ‘Only Fools And Horses’ on TV Gold over recent weeks. Hopefully something can be done soon.

Considering this made me think closer to home and another American with a major investment in an English club and assets in American sports, Stan Kroenke. It's been proved with Manure United and Liverpool that businessmen with more than one finger in the professional sporting pie run into trouble. If Stan did get full control of Arsenal in the future then this could happen to us. If he needed funds to rebuild his American teams, was financially hit hard or other business commitments cropped up we could be in a position where next time Barca comes sniffing they could end up with half the bloody squad!

With all the news regarding the Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith shares sell out going to ground it will be very interesting what happens in the months to come. Maybe more light could be shed at the delayed Wenger Q&A in September. If, God forbid the start of the season is as depressing as the ending of the last or we are still without at least another defensive signing, it could be a sticky one. Hopefully we'll be top of the table with a healthy goal difference. Hopefully!
