Arsene Wenger is a busted flush

No trophies until 2015

He still believes… do you?

I wonder how the meeting between Wenger and the board went...

Gazidis: So Arsene we have called you in today because we have been looking at your last contract, which you signed in 2006 and since then you have won absolutely nothing...

Wenger: Yes, I know... but the players lacked maturity, we have had many injuries, the game has changed, we have been unlucky in key moments, we have been a little jaded at important times... etc, etc

Gazidis: And we have decided to give you a contract for ANOTHER four years, despite the fact you have won nothing in your previous contract and all we expect is that you finish in the top four every year and keep the Champions League money rolling in, and if you win a cup in that time - all the better, but we will stand by you if you want to continue to chuck the FA and Carling Cup every year because ultimately finishing in the top four is a cup in itself... as you yourself have said...

Wenger: So what are my targets for the next four years?

Gavidis: Just finish in the top four...

Wenger: That's it? Great - Where do I sign?

For all those Wenger apologists out there – Answer this: What other top European team (Barca, Real, Milan, Inter, Man Utd etc) would renew a contract after the manager had gone through the four years of their contract without a sniff of silverware?? Answer: None... Are we loyal and traditional? Or just soft and naive?

Last year I posted an article on this site because I gave up my season ticket in despair at the failure of Arsene Wenger to put out a competitive team capable of competing to win the Premier League and encouraged everyone NOT to renew their season tickets (the most expensive in Europe) in protest at the Board’s refusal to provide any money to buy some actual star players. (Seriously – when was the last time you were actually excited about an Arsenal signing? Bergkamp? Henry? We just don’t sign stars anymore...) I’m not demanding silverware – I just want to see a team which can compete! So when Wenger re-signed this week I was absolutely sickened...

Four more years of bullsh*t... Four more years of asset stripping the club and replacing stars with novices. Four more years of signings I have to look up in Wikipedia because they have never won a cap for their country. When does it end? Do we renew his contract again in 2014 when he has won nothing for the previous four years again? Where is the line he has to cross? Ask yourself - where is your personal line, when you say enough is enough? 6 years? 8 years? 10 years - a decade without silverware? 15 years?

This summer was a Wenger classic, no new keeper despite the two complete comedians in goal (seriously - what does Fabianski have to do to get dropped??), no new midfielders, Chamack on a free six months too late and replacing Gallas, Sol, Silvestre (OK, he doesn’t count) and Senderos – all with international experience despite their faults - with an unknown French defender who was playing in the French Second Division two years ago. Everyone told me this summer would be different. Wenger had learnt - he'd seen the Wigan debacle and learned. They lied.

Face it Gooners – this guy has become a joke. He is a busted flush. He is verging on the Benitez. When I speak to fans of Man Utd/Chelsea/Liverpool/Scum (unfortunately some of them are my friends) they are absolutely delighted that Wenger is in charge. What does that say? It means they can discount Arsenal completely – forget them - they are out of the race... They wont sign anyone decent... Just French teenagers... and sell their best players...

And for all those who disagree and think 'Arsene knows' - Close your eyes and imagine - can you really see Cesc lifting the Prem at the end of the year? (Remember Diaby is currently in our starting eleven... We have no defenders over six foot) Or if he is injured for the end of the season again - our current vice-captain Manual Almunia lifting the Prem???

Smell the coffee... Wenger is the most successful manager in our history but he will win nothing more this year, or next, or the year after. His are the promises that never deliver. Either he doesn't have any money or he refuses to spend the money he has - I don't care which it is. I pay money to see a team that competes - not a bunch of kids. So get rid of him and the board and let’s have a proper team worth a grand a year to watch... a team which competes... a team worthy of the name Arsenal.
