I had a nasty premonition before the Switzerland game - it was far too good to be true that Walcott had a decent run of games under his belt. Did anyone else not believe the initial prognosis that it would be less than two weeks? Kind of like when you go to the dentist and he says, "This won't hurt a bit". Plus it is an Arsenal player, so any injury period must be multiplied by an exponential of 10. It is a shame for Walcott. Let's just hope that he does a Nasri and returns much quicker than expected because without him we are a little narrow in midfield.
Speaking of Nasri - great to see him back so soon - another player who sparkled in pre-season, although he did not make it off the bench on Saturday, 30 minutes would have done him the world of good. Continuing with injury news, when I read that Vermaelen, Fabregas and Song were all out for the Bolton game, I thought that international week continues to be cruel to us Gooners. Thankfully, the news was only accurate about the Belgian.
I hope and pray that Almunia stays fit, otherwise the consequences will be putting the Pole in goal… an actual Pole would be more useful... Any chance Chesney or Mannone (who played well for the Italy U21s) could get a game in the Carling Cup and put themselves up the pecking order?
Speaking of hope and pray, the unsurprising news regarding the length of the RVP injury along with Bendtner and Walcott means we only have one fit striker in Chamakh. Wenger should wrap him up in cotton wool, but perhaps this is also an opportunity for Vela and even Emmanuel Thomas to step up and make a name for themselves?
It was unfair of Stuart Pearce to drop Wilshire for fisticuffs outside a night club, and then to mention it publicly. It was refreshing to see Arsene Wenger take a different view and start Jack against the club he was on loan at last season at the weekend.
We have a run of winnable games before the big one at Chelsea away (by then we may have to play our actual youth team should this injury crisis continue). The comfortable win against Bolton and the decent performance by new boy Squillaci were very welcome
Keep a watch on Afobe and Chuks Aneke - playing very well in the reserves at the moment...
