As an Arsenal supporter of 47 years I am often accused of being paranoid & having a persecution complex where my beloved team are concerned. Apparently I imagine bias from the media (both written & televised) & my feelings that the fixture list always seems to be unkind to us are bordering on myopic?
Well perhaps you can tell me if I'm deluded to suggest that Sky & ESPN mostly screen games where they think we will lose, of the 8 games in which we feature between August & November, 6 are away, Liverpool, Blackburn, Sunderland, Chelsea, Man C, & Villa, all places where we either lost last year or they expected us to do this year. The other 2 are at home to Newcastle which you'd call a home banker & Spurs which is nearly always a tough game (no point in denying it).
Even in the Carling Cup they tend to show us in our away ties, never our home games unless it's against Premier League opponents who have a good chance to beat our kids. The media all confess that they are closet Gooners because of the way we play but they only show us against teams who invariably use dubious tactics to stop us playing the type of football that tempts these so-called fans out of their closets in the first place.
Am I also being paranoid when I ask why we always have more away games in the league after our Champions League ties every season? Surely by the law of averages we should have a year where we have 4 or 5 at home but that never happens. So as usual we will have to go to Chelsea after they've had a nice comfy home game & we've had a gruelling trip to Belgrade.
I'm obviously dreaming that when Mark Hughes questioning Stoke's over the top aggression it's fine but if it's Arsene, then it's "Arsenal trying to get favourable treatment from referees". Lastly I have to pinch myself when I hear them insinuate that Alex Song being sent off for 2 innocuous yellow cards proves that Arsene is wrong to point out other teams’ aggression? They bring up our disciplinary record of days gone by to chastise us with but even in Arsene's early days at the club the majority of our red cards were for petulance rather than the type of challenge that we've witness from Paul Robinson this season.
I often wish Arsene would use his inner monologue to filter his emotional comments but to some degree he's usually expressing views that many of us agree with. We're all well aware that we are not angels but a degree of fairness & balance would be nice. For instance Match Of The Day should have shown the Robinson over the ball challenge & the 2 other penalty decisions which we didn't get in the Bolton game. Maybe then people wouldn't think that Arsene was talking out of his Allardyce.
Keep The Faith.
