I am apoplectic with rage. The final whistle has not long been blown, and I write these notes having walked straight to Finsbury Park where I sit alone on a bench, so not to be influenced by any so-called media “experts”. I am trying to come to terms with what I have just witnessed, one of our worst ever home performances with the visit of West Brom.
I suppose the writing must have been on the wall upon hearing the pre-match midfield selection which starred the usual suspects: Eboue, Diaby and Song. At least we were spared Deckchair Denilson to make up a complete quartet of no hopers. Eboue and Diaby proved to be so dreadfully wasteful that the manager didn’t even wait until 70 minutes were on the clock to pull them both off. By then, our defence had become so exposed that it must have been close to failing the censor’s certificate for TV viewing. The lack of protection in front of the back four consequently had an alarming effect on the defence and keeper.
Aaahh, the keeper – just what on earth was Almunia doing by charging out yet again and clattering their forward? How many times has he done that? We thank the ref for bottling a straight red as that would have landed us with Coco the Clown in goal for the remainder of the match as well as next week’s Chavs game – the same Coco the Clown who single-handedly tried his hardest to get Totterington back into the Worthless Cup game midweek. Okay, Almunia made up for his error by saving the tame penalty attempt, but his second half display was abject. I will have recurring nightmares with the second and third goals.
As for the rest of our lot, I really felt sorry for Nasri as he appeared to be the only one trying to get us back into the game.
My advice for Wenger? Give Szczesny his opportunity in goal as the other two are clearly not good enough. Give Gibbs a chance as soon as he is fit. Please play only one of Eboue, Diaby or Deckchair in midfield, as the team just can’t cope with more than one at a time. Wilshere and Lansbury have shown they are good enough and Eastmond can’t be far away. Keep Song doing what he does best by offering protection to the back four. The Dwarf is clearly struggling this season and needs to sit on the bench more often to sharpen up his appetite. Chamakh is in danger of buckling from being overused. As RVP, Barry and Wally are always injured, surely it’s time to see what Emmanuel-Thomas can do.
At this rate we are in danger of being well off the pace by Christmas. And just for the record, I am still apoplectic with rage.
