Firstly apologies for the later than usual article... a case of writer’s block and so much written on the site lately reflects my own thoughts perfectly.
Another home loss against another newly promoted side. Much like against WBA our goalkeeper cost us the game. Once Newcastle went ahead they were well organised and fully deserved to go back to Tyneside with the victory. Arsenal were depressingly bad, it seems as though we are almost bi-polar in our performances; perfect cohesion and 6-0, or disjointed and shockingly bad.
Fabianski had a nice run of games with little to complain about, but on Sunday the chickens came home to roost - unfortunately we are back to square one. One mistake cost us the game, a simple enough catch which was badly calculated - and we are back to the question of why we didn't sign a top goalkeeper in the summer. With Everton and Wolves to come, Moyes and McCarthy will now know exactly how to beat us - stick 10 balls into the box and eventually Fabianski will drop one. Newcastle tried it all day today. It may not be Playstation football but it was enough to win three points.
The big shock was the return of RVP - but it will take time for him to return back to top form. Aside from Walcott's shot against the bar and the skipper's free kick we didn't threaten a team we beat convincingly 10 days ago.
Koscielny was rightly sent off, not the first time he has been beaten due to his lack of upper body strength, Diouf did it at Ewood Park, Drogba did it at Stamford Bridge. I am not too sure why Wenger rates him above Djourou who has played well lately... Please come back soon Verminator.
We should thank Woy, Scousers and Torres for turning up at the weekend, the loss for Chelsea softened Arsenal’s blow somewhat, but with them to play at the E******s, considering our poor home record this season, Chelsea will not fear "Fortress Arsenal". Five points is better than eight behind...
Wenger looked especially tetchy and as many times before his personal mood is often reflected in his side's display. I was disappointed with the revelations concerning his private life, as something of his aura was well and truly stripped away. I am not sure how mentally strong he is to cope with being in the spotlight. He left Monaco under a cloud many years ago and fled to Japan. I am sure there will be plenty more to be written in the redtops on this matter and it worries me in terms of how this will affect the team performance.
The Ides of November as written in a previous article strikes again. Away at Wolves this evening is a massive game, Chelsea will not continue to drop points. With a small matter of Spurs to come, a cloud hangs over my current mood - time to stand up and be counted.
