Arsene needs to forget this pure football project

Wenger: No longer in charge of a big club?

This is getting beyond the ridiculous now. How at half time with a two goal lead did we contrive to concede three goals against the Spuds? Arsenal need to learn by next season (because the Premier League is too much to demand from this lot) on how to shut out a game when we have the lead. Where was the workrate and desire to tackle any player and block any goal-bound movement that was ever present at Everton?

Where is Cesc Fabregas' head at? The second half showed an absolutely appalling display from our 'skipper'. None of these players have shown over the course of the season any shred of the pure determination associated with former Arsenal players.

Petit and Vieira would have absolutely smashed their own bodies into oblivion to prevent the enemy reaching our back four. Our current midfield three were scared of stopping the opponent. Arsenal have always had deficiencies at defending set pieces but at least individuals in past Arsenal teams would try and throw any part of their body at the ball.

Arsene Wenger needs to forget this pure football project. Not completely as that defeats what we stand for, but Arsenal have to learn to 'spoil' games for a 10-15 minute period to make our leads more stable and to let the opposition know we won’t be broken, much like at Everton.

It seems at home we are too expectant of victory. If we could repeat the effort we put into away games back in London N5, then at least we would not fault the Arsenal players for effort and determination.

But yesterday was just abysmal.

We are a middle level club team. No longer a big club. We are now the same size as Tottenham. That is a fact that makes me physically sick. Cup trophies maybe, but an eternal optimist has now become a realist.
