Delusional Bendtner sums Arsenal up

Current squad think they are better than they are

Delusional Bendtner sums Arsenal up

Nick: Show us your medals

What a few days this has been as an Arsenal supporter. Our abject second half display against that lot, followed up with a toothless performance in Portugal leaves us wondering where this season is going. It is not all gloom and doom as amazingly we can go top of the league on Saturday morning, and a home victory against Partizan Belgrade will see us through to the last 16 of the Champions League. But will the team be mentally strong enough to recover from the setbacks of the past week? I'm not so sure.

One man who doesn't seem to suffer from any crisis of confidence is our Dane Nicklas Bendtner. If you listen to Nick he'll tell you ad nauseum that he should be Arsenal's main striker, that he believes he is one of the best players in the world, and that if he doesn't get picked then he'll look for a transfer. Judging by comments I've heard from fellow Gooners, I'm guessing there wouldn't be a shortage of offers to drive Nick to the airport.

To me the current group of players just aren't good enough or hungry enough to bring us success. And super Nick sums us all up. He thinks he's something he isn't. He's got the flash car, the money, the WAG etc. He thinks he's made it when he hasn't. It is very easy to be bitter and jealous about the modern day footballer, but when you take a look at the majority of our Arsenal squad it makes you want to scream with frustration. They may have all the modern trappings of today's Premier League stars, but someone should remind them that they're lacking one thing - medals.

In fairness to Bendtner it wasn't just him who was poor against Braga, but to be honest if you're going to start complaining about a lack of opportunities then perhaps you'd better perform when given the chance. As more of the game went on all I could think of when watching Bendtner was Audley Harrison. All talk and no action. Unfortunately Nick isn't alone in that, and I sadly include Arsene Wenger in that group.

Where do we go from here? We either roll our sleeves up, reveal some true Arsenal grit, and show that Arsene's belief in our squad's mental state is well founded, or we continue to play with a lack of penetration, and give away the inevitable bad goals at random intervals. Please let it be the former.

Is it time for Arsene to try something different? I'm no expert, but what about switching to 4-4-2, and playing Walcott up front with either Chamakh, Van Persie (when fit), or even Bendtner. It surely couldn't be any worse than the current situation. For all our possession we found it difficult to break down a defensive Braga side, and unfortunately you just knew at some point that we'd give them a chance. And I think it is safe to say that we'll face harder opponents than Braga in weeks to come. I think I might watch the Villa game through the cracks in my fingers!
