Wenger: ‘I was delighted the pools panel gave us a late winner’

Wenger's View - The (<i>un</i>)Official Manager's Email - 19 December 2010

From le horse’s mouth…

Saturday was a particularly good day for us. On Monday we had been to Old Trafford where we were unable to score, run fast, tackle or even look too interested because of the condition of the pitch. It is not reasonable to expect my players to stumble about on poor surfaces, although Sir Alex just couldn’t see the logic.

This Saturday, however, it was perfect. So smooth! In fact smoother than it has been for years. We played with a white ball and our triangles were perfect, in fact so perfect that I could stop the game at any time to trace them in the snow. There was no tackling, no need to risk losing the ball by pushing forward to needing to shoot; always so wasteful and wide, and delays our triangle making. We had most of the possession, good concentration and were able to focus our formations well within our own half. In fact we set a club record for consecutive passes within our own half, it was just so sad that there was no-one to witness our skill, commitment and technical ability. I was delighted that the pools panel gave us a late winner 1-0, which is just another example of our efficiency.

Next week it’s Chelsea and we will try hard to be focussed, not run too hard, show not too much passion and make the inevitable defensive error. It is nonsense to say we are so predictable, toothless, a training camp and happy to play on our own and try to ignore our opponents goal. I expect that nasty, thuggish M. Drogba will spend the whole match trying to get our ball off us and run hard and shoot too hard. He makes more technical errors than the whole of our team and that must never be forgotten.

Oh, and of course, I am sure we will win something this year, maybe in Barcelona?

Thanks for your support

Yours artfully, Arsene Wenger

No shopping in the sales according to this morning's Mail. So, look, Son, just do the honourable thing and the name of David Price - RESIGN.

this team has talent just look at manu;only nani is reliable 24/7 the rest are scrappy but they still scrap out results. why coz they have a defence, good coaches and width.arsenal never prepare or play the opponent.just wengerball everyday.the fullbacks,rvp,nb52,mc.theo can all add width by crossing but the coaches don't train them.that's whats up. the team is okay except i don't rate song(too slow, why 442 flopped)and squillaci, kozzy is a good right cb

IAM ALSO CONFIDENT THAT THE GUNNERS WILL HAVE A TROOPHY THIS SEASON,THE TEAM HAVE A NUMBER OF SKILLED AND EXTA ORDINARY YOUNG PLAYER WHOM I THINK THIS IS THEIR TIME TO PROOVE THEIR ABILITY AND MATURITY TO SUPPORTES OF THE CLUB, AND THE CLUB MANAGER SHOULD BE SERIOUSY DURING THE TRANSFER WINDOW TO STRENGHEN THE SQUAD ESPECIALLY GOALKEEPER,CENTRAL MIDFIELDER AND SHARP AND STRONG CENTRAL FOWARD IN ORDER RETURN OUR LOST RESPECT IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE!

So true in my opinion Wenger has been at the helm too long and should consider going up stairs in the capacity of director of football. The buck stops with him, these lot are his players and lets face it most of them are crap and wouldn’t even get into my championship manager side. If Wenger can’t get the players due to budgetary constraints then say so. I am beyond pissed off when the board are saying Wenger has in the excess of £40 million to spend, but he chooses not to because he is looking for a bargain. Wenger those days are gone, you need to put your hands in your pocket and buy some good established players (not second rate French rejects). I’m not going to say have a great Christmas because as an Arsenal fan what’s there to look forward to? Us getting battered by Chelsea, scrapping a win against Wigan, scrapping a draw against Birmingham, and losing to Man City at home.
