Let’s Have Some Respect Please

It’s still possible

You just get that feeling you might have when faced with a situation that requires something to happen, and half of your group are pulling in a radical (in my opinion) direction. And I'll be thinking, NO! This is not the way to deal with things. Let’s calm it down a little.

I read some of the comments on this website and in some cases they are pure spite, and I find that enormously disappointing. The fans of other clubs (especially them!) must be loving this. I do not agree with the mentality that seems to prevail here at present. I have always followed the opinions online and i'm interested. But It's so sour right now. It's not over yet, and I am not going home early.

Whatever you think about the situation, Arsene deserves respect! This is simply not right, and the tug of war to press the self destruct button continues. When has this ever been "The Arsenal way"? I have been going since 73 / 74, and WILL keep going no matter what happens, It's what I always wanted to do, and still is.

This is my club too and I am calling for decency. Are we in the relegation zone yet? You may call it a long shot, you may call it deluded, but I have not given up on Arsenal's hopes this season. There are still too many games to play, too much can happen. We love to remind others of our grand history, and it is littered with twists and turns, we never do it the easy way.

Blackburn always slug it out against the Arsenal. It happens! In 1989 we lost at home to Derby, we drew with the Wombles while Liverpool put West Ham away on a Monday night (I think). it ain’t over till it’s over. Come on The Arsenal!

Well done for trying to remain positive, but if this lot of overpaid bottlers win the league I will eat my hat. I have seen too many capitulations by this team and have zero faith in them left now. I am no 'plastic fan' just a realist who can see the writing on the wall.

Cannot disagree with a lot of what you are saying there Gary. The deficiencies - yes there is deadwood, players who have lost confidence, players who resent being demoted to second string and at least 1 who I think tries but in his heart does not want to be there. Most would cite the keeper and central defence. I am a fan of Chesney, I want to see him as our no 1, I also think regarding the defence, TV, JD and a Kos with a year in the EPL is not the worst option. Even Squill liooks ok with JD. We will need reinforcements up front no doubt, if Cesc goes we will also need a pretty impressive signing. More defensive drilling, more pressing like Barca and a long over due full and frank investigation into our injuries would not go amiss

Difference is the 1989 team had more fighters than bottlers and a manager who would roast any slackers.

Mandy, I agree with you in terms of the hysterics on this and many other, um, let's call them "discussion forums" for argument's sake...two reasons I put together that list of matches blown (well 3 if you include my natural predilection toward being a smart - arse) 1. It's crazy to think that we're still sitting second despite the ridiculous amount of points squandered....I think that points to the general lowering of the Premiership standard this season. Either that, or the so - called inferior clubs have all improved markedly. 2. You & I, and many other long - term Gooners ('79 cup final was my first experience....as a 5 year old Aussie in Melbourne!) would have to agree that we could both point to several versions of the Arsenal from the past 40 - odd years that would have never, ever allowed that many points(or cup ties) to be thrown away so cheaply. If I'm reading the general mood correctly I think that's the sticking point for a lot of people - it's not necessarily the results, but the MANNER in which matches have been lost, whether that be to tactical immaturity, a lack of organisation and / or leadership and courage. We had a dispirited, listless team back in '83, again in '86, and a pale shadow of a great one in 1994 / 95. On each occasion the manager was replaced. Personally, I think AW should be given one more year to address the glaring deficiencies we can all see for ourselves, and if this doesn't happen, then surely it's time for a change of direction?

The team of 89 had passion and true spirit, and wanted to play for our club, with a couple of exceptions, this lot dont!

and for the record i went to my first game in 1978, antique gooner you have obviously seen a lot more than me so i respect your opinion i just feel the club have turned their back on the working class fans that have followed this club for a long long time but thats a different matter.

Why should we respect wenger he has helped make arsenal what they are today a money making machine with no regard for fans that have followed this club for decades, and im only to aware of our grand old history maybe its the likes of wenger and gazidis that need reminding(if they knew much of it in the first place)

I refer to fans keeping their head rather than indulging in some of the hysterical nonsense that has been going on. I think some are falling for what is clearly a media campaign against this team. We are second in the league as things stand FFS and the season is not over. This is no time for some of the knee jerk reactions some fans are exhibiting. (Not a fan for as long as some on here but first saw Arsenal play in 1978)

At last a rational article on The Gooner! The fact that West has been a suporter since 1973 (I went to my first game in 1959) supports my theory that most of the whingers are post the George Graham era who have only known good times. How about a rule that everyone who comments has to state the year they went to their first Arsenal game?

Spot on- nobody gave us a chance in 89,alot of gooners thought the same. What happened at Andfield went down in folklore. Be disappointed with results-be downright p***ed of if you want, but support the team till the end. Come on you Gunners, Come on Arsene!

absoultely no need for the comments like 'dream on', we are football fans, are we not meant to dream that of our team actually winning something? yes we may not be at our best but we managed to get a win today regardless of how hard we made it for ourselves. fact is if we win all our remaining games we will more than likely be crowned champions, I know it may seem unlikely but can we try to be positive and get behind the team and those that try to be positive about the team until the season is actually over when we can then give a fair assessment of them! I know the last 5/6 weeks have been damn depressing but come may 22nd we may still actually be champions, then who will give a **** about this period?! Remember some of our greatest title wins have come after everyone had written us off (remember 1998 when the bookies paid out on united only for us to win the league!) come on gooners lets get behind the boys for 7 more games and if they come up shirt, then lets assess the situation again!

Mandy Dodd, Can you please tell me in which of the following matches the team have kept their head while everyone else had lost theirs this season, as I have forgotten. The choices are: Tottenham (h) West Brom (h) Sunderland (a) Wigan (a) Shakhtar (a) Braga (a) Birmingham (CC Final) Newcastle (a) Man Utd (a FA Cup) Barcelona (a) Sunderland (h) Blackburn (h), or Leyton Orient (h FA Cup)? If you know which one it is, can you remind me please?

you think wenger shows the supporters respect? when he insults our intelligence with his lying public statements, do you think he is showing me respect? you reap what you sow.

Its hard to be too kind to certain club employees presently. If we had ambition, we would have signed a decent centre half at the going rate and a keeper. In my opinoin, if we had done this, we would now have two pots in the bag and a cup semi final looming next weekend. Our illustrious leader singed the french version of the chuckle brothers, hoping somehow he could turn a sows ear into a silk purse. The club shareholders must love the bloke bargain basement nobody's on the playing staff but a big dividend looming. Oh and if the fans don't like whats happening just tell them to **** off and mind their own business, as they have never worked half a day in football.

Balanced words of a proper fan. Too many nervous, brittle, media fed, blogged up knee jerkers about at the moment. If you can keep your head while others are losing theirs.......

dearie me - wishful thinking and i don't share your analogies. The previous article sums up all the logic that gooners by the thousands are all waking up to: namely wenger has been exposed as an inept con man - he needs slapping down or booting out of OUR club

1989 we had a manager coming to his peak not a manager way passed his best.We had a team of figthers and winners not a team of bottlers and losers. We had John Lukic not Average Al.We wont win anything again until Wenger leaves
